![]() These were fitted to new tanks, with a redesigned turret, the new tank being the mk3. The Centurion mk1 and mk2 were armed with the 17pdr as was the Sherman Firefly, but it was not very long before design work was finished on the 20pdr gun. I’m looking at the Centurion, a British medium tank (many claim it was the first Main Battle Tank (MBT)) which first appeared right at the end of WWII (so close to the end that while it was deployed, it never fought in that conflict), and I’m pitting it against the German King Tiger, which was a heavy tank that first made an appearance in Normandy, in 1944.ĭesign work on the Centurion was started mid-war, it was intended to be able to survive against the Tiger and its fearsome 88mm gun. ![]() So, at last, here it is, better late than never. I always intended to do it, but eight or nine other posts kinda got in the way. Way way back when, a friend asked me to look at these two tanks and do a comparison. ![]()
